Abide With Me
By Elizabeth Strout
Our Shelf Talker
I loved Olive Kittredge by Ms. Strout and as soon as I finished it I wanted to read something else by the author. This book is set in a small town in Maine and tells the story of a young minister struggling with the loss of his wife. He has two small children and the son goes to live with relatives and he continues to care for the daughter. She is traumatized by her mother's death and becomes mute and regresses in behavior and starts wetting the bed. The cruelty and intrusiveness of a small town is on display when people question whether the minister is having an affair with his housekeeper. This is a truly beautiful book about trying to survive a crisis.- Rose from the Faith Middleton Show
Alex & Me
By Irene Pepperberg
Our Shelf Talker
If you are an animal lover, or not, this book is fascinating and quite tender. It is the story of how Dr. Irene Pepperberg spent 30 years in partnership with an African parrot, Alex, and was the first person to find a depth of intelligence in these parrots. A jaw-dropping story.- Robyn

Animal Spirits: How Human Psychology Drives the Economy, and Why It Matters for Global Capitalism
By George Akerloff & Robert Shiller
Our Shelf Talker
Akerlof and Shiller defend behavioral macroeconomics and support John Keynes’s theory that there are non-economic drivers of our economy--the attitudes and ideas that influence our actions. We may be in a depression stage in our thinking which could become a self-fulfilling philosophy. This book is for the general reader and comes at just the right time.-Roxanne
