Geraldine Brooks, "Caleb's Crossing"

Meet author Geraldine Brooks who will be talking about her latest book, Caleb's Crossing, followed by a book signing.

Geraldine Brooks is The New York Times bestselling author of People of the Book and Year of Wonders, and the nonfiction works Nine Parts of Desire and Foreign CorrespondenceCaleb’s Crossing is inspired by the life of Caleb Cheeshahteaumauk, the first Native American to graduate from Harvard College in 1665.  Little is known about this remarkable young scholar, and only a single letter, in Latin, has survived from his hand.  Brooks’s novel is an attempt to fill the void in the historical record through an informed imagining of his remarkable journey from a traditional Wampanoag life on Martha’s Vineyard to Harvard, where he studied the classics alongside the sons of the colonial elite.
