"My book buddies, Roxanne Coady of R.J. Julia Booksellers in Madison, CT, Dr. Rose Quiello, lecturer in English at Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, and enthusiastic reader Sally Gessner join me in the studio every two weeks. Occasionally Lee Jacobis, author and former professor at the University of Connecticut, drops in as well.

We tell you about the books we've enjoyed recently, and listeners are invited to tell us about your favorite books on line. E-mail us at faithwnpr@aol.com. Tell us in a couple of sentences about an all-time favorite book, or a recent great read, and why you love it. Adults and children are welcome! We'll read your letters over the air."

Interview with Larry Doyle:

I Love You Beth Cooper I Love You Beth Cooper
by Larry Doyle

Denis Cooverman decided not to give the standard graduation speech, rather he used the opportunity to declare his love for cheerleader Beth Cooper. Doyle, a writer and producer for "The Simpsons", has written a wonderful teen novel for adults as he follows the repercussions from this rash act.

Interview with Noah Charney:

The Art Thief The Art Thief
by Noah Charney

Art historian Charney takes the reader to the world of high art crime, weaving a tale of the theft of 3 masterpieces from across Europe. Fascinating and filled with amazing detail of both art history and the little known world of art crime.

LEE'S PICKS:
A Yellow Raft in Blue Water A Yellow Raft in Blue Water
by Michael Dorris

A wonderful insight into a way of life I wouldn't otherwise know. Dorris (who is part Indian himself) tells a strong and poignant tale from the point of view of three American Indian women: Christine, her teenage daughter, and her surrogate mom, Aunt Ida. Beautiful, limpid, flowing, exquisite writing.
Building a Web Site for Dummies with CDROM Building a Website for Dummies
by David A. Crowder

If you can get online, you can have a webpage up within minutes using this as your guide. One of the 'for Dummies' series, this one is really useful and a great resource - gives advice and directions for setting up your page, getting listed on search engines - all the things you need to know to get started in the cyber world.
New Stories from the South: New Stories from the South: The Year's Best 2007
Edited by Edward P. Jones and Kathy Pories

The South has long been a source of significant writers and this wonderful collection of short stories shows what is currently being written in that literary-rich area.
PlatoŐs Republic: Plato's Republic: A Biography
by Simon Blackburn

This is one of Atlantic Monthly Press's 'Books that Changed the World' Series. Here Blackburn, a philosopher at Cambridge University tries to clarify the issues presented in Plato's Republic, one of the founding books of Western thought. It is the source of transcendental thought, of our views on reality, and of much of the founding religious concepts for both Christianity and Islam, and Blackburn makes it clear and straightforward - for people who haven't (and probably aren't going to) read the original.

ROSE'S PICKS:
Mothers and Sons Mothers and Sons
by Colm Toibin

One of Ireland's foremost writers has put together a collection of short stories dealing with the relationships between mothers and their sons. But be warned - these are not warm and reassuring tales but instead filled with secrets, guilt, and a variety of complex interactions. Subtle, but powerful and rich!
In the Lake of the Woods In the Lake of the Woods
by Tim O'Brien

When a senator, and Vietnam vet, loses his election by a landslide because information on his conduct in the war comes to light, he and his wife retreat to a lakeside cottage. First his devoted wife vanishes, and then he vanishes - all by page 3! The resulting tale makes for a most gripping murder mystery!
The SenatorŐs Wife The Senator's Wife
by Sue Miller

Two couples, or rather two wives, find themselves living next door to one another in a New England townhouse. One, recently married and pregnant, is just starting her married life; the other, the senator's wife, has long been married to a man known for his infidelities. This is the story of their lives and how they intersect told by a master.
The Crazy School The Crazy School
by Cornelia Reed

Filled with deadpan wit, this novel follows Madelaine, the retired debutante, who takes a job at the Santangelo Academy in the Berkshires when her husband's job falls through. What she finds is an elite school for disturbed kids, filled with distrust and run by an eccentric headmaster. Things heat up when two students turn up dead and she becomes a suspect. Psychologically complex and engrossing.

FAITH'S PICKS:
Confessions of a Country Architect Confessions of a Country Architect
by Don Metz

A graduate of Yale, Metz decided to have a small country architectural practice rather than working for a large firm. This is his memoir of 40 years of practice in rural New Hampshire - a smart and interesting study on the meaning of designing and building a home.
The Mists of Avalon The Mists of Avalon
by Marion Zimmer Bradley

I was absolutely absorbed by this classic. It is the story of the legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, told from the women's point of view. Life at the crossroads between native Druid religion and Christianity, filled with honor and romance - a wonderful tale.
John McCain John McCain: An American Odyssey
by Robert Timberg

And another book to round out the list of presidential candidates' books.
The Agony of Victory The Agony of Victory: When Winning Isn't Enough
by Steve Friedman

A collection of true stories of the lives of 'sports professionals' - athletes who must win at any cost, and what those costs are.
