ROXANNE'S PICKS:
The Middle Place The Middle Place
by Kelly Corrigan

The middle place is that spot in adulthood when you are technically a 'grown-up' with marriage and kids, but still your parents' (in this case her father's) daughter. It's the place that Kelly Corrigan is in until both she and her beloved Dad are diagnosed with cancer. She has the ability to look at ordinary circumstances and give them 'the light of day' in this fantastic - and hilarious - memoir.
Candy Girl Candy Girl: A Year in the Life of an Unlikely Stripper
by David A. Crowder

The author of the screenplay for the hit movie Juno has written a memoir of the year she spent as a stripper. At 24 and bored with typing copy at an ad agency in Minnesota, she decided to change careers and become a stripper, lap dancer and phone sex girl and this entertaining tale is the result.
The Hamster Revolution The Hamster Revolution: How to Manage Your Email Before It Manages You
by Mike Song, Vicki Halsey, and Tim Burress

Are you eating up time dealing with your email? Then this is the book for you. It's written in the One Minute Manager style, but it has valuable points on organizing and streamlining your email as well as codes on what to do and how to do it. You can save up to 20 days a year - but first, shut off that 'ding'!
Body Drama: Real Girls, Real Bodies, Real Issues, Real Answers
by Simon Blackburn

An extremely graphic - and extremely practical - book for teenage girls that addresses all of the questions and issues they have with their bodies - questions that usually either don't get answered or get answered incorrectly.

LEE'S PICKS:
The Aeneid The Aeneid
by Vergil

One of the masterpieces of Western literature, this is the story of Aeneus and the founding of Rome. Created to glorify the Roman Empire, this is a powerful, epic tale that will change your heart and mind.
Slaughterhouse Five Slaughterhouse Five
by Kurt Vonnegut

The signature anti-war novel and basis of the 1972 film classic, this is the story of Billy Pilgrim, the soldier who should never have been a soldier, who survives the horrific Dresden firebombing as a German prisoner of war to become 'unstuck in time', abducted by aliens. A telling and wonderful story that must be read.
Beethoven was One-Sixteenth Black Beethoven was One-Sixteenth Black: And Other Stories
by Nadine Gordimer

An unusual collection of short stories by the 1991 winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature. Here she manages to inhabit the imaginations and memories of her characters in a unique way. Varied and powerful.
Persuasion Persuasion
by Jane Austen

If you have been watching the PBS Jane Austen series, you definitely should read this book - it is a telling example of how much better books are! Anne Eliot is a wonderful character - but read the book keeping in mind all the forms of persuasion that are present both in the novel and in your own life!

ROSIE'S PICKS:
The Invention of Hugo Cabret The Invention of Hugo Cabret
by Brian Selznick

Winner of the 2008 Caldecott Medal, this is a brilliant book. A 500-page, primarily graphic book, it breaks open the novel form for young readers. The story of Hugo, an orphan who lives in the walls of a Paris train station, and has a message from his dead watchmaker father to decode, this is filled with mystery and magic. For 5th graders on up.
Soul to Soul Soul to Soul
by Gary Zukav

From the author of the best-selling The Seat of the Soul, this book nudges one to think about life in a whole new way. Zukav is one of the great spiritual thinkers of out time, and in the first part of the book he presents short stories of people's lives that lead you to rethink your own experiences and your responses to them. The second half deals with the larger philosophical questions of life. A great guide to living a more thoughtful, rich and compassionate life.

FAITH'S PICKS:
The Anatomy of Deception The Anatomy of Deception
by Lawrence Goldstone

A 'who-dun-it' as well as historical fiction, this novel is set in the Philadelphia of 1889, just at the time when surgery was moving into the modern era. Early forensic science (autopsies had just become legal), ruthless murders, and the historic setting all blend to make for a great read.
The Mists of Avalon The Mists of Avalon
by Marion Zimmer Bradley

I was absolutely absorbed by this classic. It is the story of the legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, told from the womenÕs point of view. Life at the crossroads between native Druid religion and Christianity, filled with honor and romance - a wonderful tale.
The Taste of Conquest The Taste of Conquest
by Michael Krondi

Little did you know that your spice jars hold a world of history within them. This is the story of three cities - Venice, Lisbon and Amsterdam - and the beginnings of the spice trade. Intrigue, greed and adventure all conspired to change our diet and our culture -- youÕll never look at your peppermill the same way again!
Learning to Drive Learning to Drive: And Other Life Stories
by Katha Pollitt

A professor of religion at Manhattanville College, Gardella is fascinating on spiritual matters. Here he explores the way people find spiritual aspects to the ordinary events of everyday life - work and play alike.
Domestic Religion: Work, Food, Sex and Other Commitments
by Peter Gardella

An unusual collection of short stories by the 1991 winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature. Here she manages to inhabit the imaginations and memories of her characters in a unique way. Varied and powerful.
