"My book buddies, Roxanne Coady of R.J. Julia Booksellers in Madison, CT, Dr. Rose Quiello, lecturer in English at Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, and enthusiastic reader Sally Gessner join me in the studio every two weeks. Occasionally Lee Jacobus, author and former professor at the University of Connecticut, drops in as well.

We tell you about the books we've enjoyed recently, and listeners are invited to tell us about your favorite books on line. E-mail us at faithwnpr@aol.com. Tell us in a couple of sentences about an all-time favorite book, or a recent great read, and why you love it. Adults and children are welcome! We'll read your letters over the air."

ROSE'S PICKS:

The Meaning of It All The Meaning of It All: Thoughts of a Citizen-Scientist
by Richard P. Feynman

A collection of 3 speeches this free-spirited and energetic physicist gave at the University of Washington. His belief is that everything in science can and should be questioned. This is a science book for everybody - Feynman takes the huge ideas of science and society and brings them to the masses. Filled with anecdotes, this was originally written in 1963 but is still timely, rich and funny.
Hole in the World
by Richard Rhodes

One of my favoirite memoirs, by the prize-winning author of The Making of the Atomic Bomb. After his mother committed suicide when he was 1, he and his older brother were left first to be boarded out and then in the care of an abusive stepmother. This is the story of a traumatic childhood, and the redeeming power of love.
The Bean Trees The Bean Trees
by Barbara Kingsolver

This is Barbara Kingsolver's first novel - the story of Taylor Greer, who heads west in an old VW, determined to get out of rural Kentucky and not to get pregnant and instead unexpectedly ends up with a 3-year old Cherokee girl, Turtle. This is a wonderful tale of getting through hard times and what it's like to be an outsider.

LEE'S PICKS:
Then (Alexander Liberman Photographs 1925-95)
by Alexander Liberman

This is my very first coffee table book! And what surprised me was that I was as intrigued by the captions and commentary as I was by the portraits. Photographs, primarily of people, by the former artistic directory of Vogue Magazine, this is a beautiful record of a rich life and fascinating times.
Them: A Memoir of Parents Them: A Memoir of Parents
by Francine Du Plessix Gray

This is an elegant, astonishing memoir of Gray's mother, Tatiana Du Plessix, and her step-father, the sculptor and art director, Alexander Liberman (see above). Packed off to her grandparents at an early age, Gray actually had to do research in order to reconstruct her parents and their fascinating life. A tale told with respect and concern by a stunning writer.

Blown Blown
by Francine Mathews

A political thriller complete with a CIA agent, a murder in the President's administration, a lethal marathon, and an angry anti-government terrorist. It all adds up to a great page-turner..
