"My book buddies, Roxanne Coady of R.J. Julia Booksellers in Madison, CT, Dr. Rose Quiello, lecturer in English at Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, and enthusiastic reader Sally Gessner join me in the studio every two weeks. Occasionally Lee Jacobis, author and former professor at the University of Connecticut, drops in as well.

We tell you about the books we've enjoyed recently, and listeners are invited to tell us about your favorite books on line. E-mail us at faithwnpr@aol.com. Tell us in a couple of sentences about an all-time favorite book, or a recent great read, and why you love it. Adults and children are welcome! We'll read your letters over the air."

FAITH'S PICKS:
Treacherous Alliance Treacherous Alliance The Secret Dealings of Israel, Iran, and the United States
by Trita Parsi

AUTHOR INTERVIEW:
The Tenth Muse: The Tenth Muse: My Life in Food
by Judith Jone

Judith Jones' memoir Ð she's a legendary editor and vice president at Knopf's. This is one of the best food books I've read. She gives a wonderful history of food in the past century.
The Little Book of Common Sense Investing: The Little Book of Common Sense Investing: The Only Way to Guarantee Your Fair Share of Stock Market Returns
by John Bogle

Bogle is founder and CEO of Vanguard Mutual Fund Group. This book is a great guide on investing in index funds.
By the Rivers of Babylon By the Rivers of Babylon
by Cindy Brown Austin

Austin is a Connecticut author that writes about the despair of a young Hartford man who gets sucked into the underworld of drugs and crime.
Backstage with Julia: Backstage with Julia: My Years with Julia Child
by Nancy Verde Barr

The author spent a long time with Julia Child and writes a very candid picture about the infamous chef.
Away Away
by Amy Bloom

My favorite book of the year - this would make a terrific gift to give this holiday season. It's about a young woman who escapes to the U.S. and tries to make a life for herself - very riveting and gorgeously written story.
Backstage with Julia: The Bacon Cookbook
by James Villas

The author lives in the Hamptons and is a southern food cookbook. The recipes are to die for! Bacon is a main role or flavoring agent in every recipe.

ROXANNE'S PICKS:
Day of Empire Day of Empire
by Amy Chua

The author took 6-7 hyper powers since the beginning of time and discusses what they had in common and relates it to today's societies. Very interesting and well written.
I'll Drink to That: I'll Drink to That: Beaujolais and the French Peasant Who Made It the World's Most Popular Wine
by Rudolph Chelminski

This book is about how George Duboeuf invented the marketing plan for Beaujolais. Beaujolais is actually a wine, after only a couple of months, is fun to drink but not complex but the marketing behind the wine brought it to a whole different level.
Power to Save the World Power to Save the World: The Truth about Nuclear Energy
by Gwyneth Cravens

Cravens was an anti-nuclear activist who wrote this book with a scientist. She recognizes that nuclear energy might be a good alternative to oil and does a very smart job of debunking some of the myths out there.
Thank You, World
by Alice McGinty and Wendy Halperin (illustrator)

A very simple book that takes 8 countries and uses everyday occurrences (going to bed, eating breakfast) to show what life is like in these countries. The illustrations are beautiful and it's a great way to open up your child's eyes that people are the same all over the world.
Violet Bing and the Grand House Violet Bing and the Grand House
by Jennifer Paros

This is a book for a child who's reading their first chapter book. In reading this, I could immediately remember what it's like reading a chapter book for the first time. Violet doesn't like surprises and says "no" all the time. When she finally says "yes" to something it opens up all these new adventures for her. Wonderful read!

LEE'S PICKS:
No Country for Old Men No Country for Old Men
by Cormac McCarthy

This book is brilliantly written by a tremendous writer and the movie, directed by the Coen brothers, is now out in theatres.
The Informant The Informant: A True Story
by Kurt Eichenwald

This is a nice, gigantic book for the winter. An astounding story about the Archie Daniels Midland price-fixing scheme that involved an enormous amount of large international companies.
A Changed Man A Changed Man
by Francine Prose

An extraordinary view of human nature and it's a great look at how people can change their political views and how that one change can impact the rest of their life.
On the Road On the Road
by Jack Kerouac

This is the first time I've read this book and the characters fascinate me. They go all over the US and run into friends while on their adventures. A definite classic.
