"My book buddies, Roxanne Coady of R.J. Julia Booksellers in Madison, CT, Dr. Rose Quiello, lecturer in English at Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, and enthusiastic reader Sally Gessner join me in the studio every two weeks. Occasionally Lee Jacobus, author and former professor at the University of Connecticut, drops in as well.

We tell you about the books we've enjoyed recently, and listeners are invited to tell us about your favorite books on line. E-mail us at faithwnpr@aol.com. Tell us in a couple of sentences about an all-time favorite book, or a recent great read, and why you love it. Adults and children are welcome! We'll read your letters over the air."

 ROXANNE'S PICKS:

The Elements of Style Illustrated
by William Strunk, Jr.

This is such a classic book on writing style. The illustrated version is even better than the original edition. In my opinion, this turned a book that I've always liked into a coffee table book or a fun book to give as a gift. |
 |
Boy Were We Wrong About the Dinosaurs
by Kathleen Kudlinski

Written by a New Haven Register columnist, it's a beautifully illustrated book. It has a lot of factual information about dinosaurs - kids will love this book! |
 |
Poetry Speaks to Children
by Elise Paschen (editor)
A wonderful collection of poetry along with a CD. Lovely, light illustrations and many of the poems are read by the poets themselves. Includes poems by Robert Frost, Billy Collins, James Stevenson and more. It's a great idea, and also perfect to play in the car. |
 |
Why Do I Love These People?
by Po Bronson

Each chapter Bronson talks about a real life event that happened between two family members. He manages to pick up on the nuances in relationships that you can easily relate to. |
 |
The Comedy Thesaurus
by Judy Brown (editor)
This book is filled with 3,241 quips, quotes and smart-ass remarks. It's fun and includes hilarious remarks and insights by comedians. |
 |
Cool Stuff and How It Works
by Chris Woodford, James Flint, Ben Morgan, Clint Witchalls, Luke Collins

A great book for kids to avoid doing homework with! Explains how all sorts of things - sneakers, computers, sports equipment - do what they do. |

The Art of Mending
by Elizabeth Berg

This is a lovely story about a woman, who is a quilter, and her relationship with her brother, sister and ailing father. The art of mending refers to quilting as well as relationships. |
 |
Crossing to Safety
by Wallace Stegner

A favorite book of mine about 2 families and their friendship over many, many years told through the eyes of one of the husbands. It's the kind of book that deals with very common issues and yet the author presents them in such a rich and moving way that you feel like the characters are your close friends. |
|
 |
The Rural Life
by Verlyn Klinkenborg

I love this book and like to read little sections of it from time to time. What the author does is divide it into 12 chapters - one for every month of the year - from January to December. |
 |
Bel Canto
by Anne Patchett

Opera is at the heart of this book. It takes place during a hostage situation at an executive's birthday party. You get to experience how different people react in a crisis situation. |
|
 |
High Flyer
by Susan Howatch

A romance, mystery, thriller all in one novel. You can't put it down once you start reading it. |

Charles Addams Half-Baked Cookbook
by Charles Addams

Charles Addams is the man who created the Addams Family television show. This book includes culinary cartoons featured in the New Yorker as well as never published ones. It also includes very strange, regional recipes. It's very funny, witty and wacky. |
 |
Team of Rivals
by Doris Kearns Goodwin

Goodwin did something very dangerous for a historian - taking on a subject that has been written about so much - but this biography about Lincoln is different. When she started examining his rivals, she realized how fascinating this side of him was. |
 |
WWilliam Sloane Coffin Jr.: A Holy Impatience
by Warren Goldstein

This is the perfect title for this book. Coffin, who devoted his life to the religious world, purposely tackled the most controversial issues of his time. The book is fascinating! |
 |
The Smaller Majority
by Piotr Naskrecki

Kids are fascinated with bugs, and this book is filled with the most gorgeous, colorful photographs of bugs. Perfect for a bug lover - child or adult. |
 |
Online Education: Is It For You?
by Susan Deane
A great guide to online education that tells you how to get started, what program is right for you, and much, much more. |
 |
Kitchens for the Rest of Us
by Peter Lemos

A great book for people who want to remodel their kitchen, but can't afford to spend a fortune. It is filled with wonderful, affordable ideas. |
