"My book buddies, Roxanne Coady of R.J. Julia Booksellers in Madison, CT, Dr. Rose Quiello, lecturer in English at Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, and enthusiastic reader Sally Gessner join me in the studio every two weeks. Occasionally Lee Jacobis, author and former professor at the University of Connecticut, drops in as well.

We tell you about the books we've enjoyed recently, and listeners are invited to tell us about your favorite books on line. E-mail us at faithwnpr@aol.com. Tell us in a couple of sentences about an all-time favorite book, or a recent great read, and why you love it. Adults and children are welcome! We'll read your letters over the air."

Interview with Alex Witchel:

The Spare Wife The Spare Wife: Reading Literature Through Peace and War at West Point
by Elizabeth Sammet

Alex Witchel, a staff writer for the New York Times Magazine has written a delicious romp through the fairy tale world of upper class New Yorkers and the media - full of ambition, love, friendship, and the allure of getting ahead and staying there.

ROXANNE'S PICKS:
Her Last Death Her Last Death: A Memoir
by Susanna Sonnenberg

A compelling memoir of a bad childhood. This chronicle of the author's 'push-pull' relationship with her charming, intoxicating, and non-functional mother is told with brilliance and integrity by a fantastic writer.
The Pig Did It The Pig Did It
by Joseph Caldwel

A totally ridiculous, amusing and beautifully written book. A New Yorker's heart has been broken, so he retreats to Ireland to 'surrender' to his heartache, but life - in the form of a pig and a buried body - intervene. This is just a ball!
In Style In Style: Style 101
by Kathleen Fifield and Alison Gwinn

How to set the table, buy lipstick, arrange flowers, walk in high heels and all the other essentials that you need to live a stylish life, by the editors of In Style Magazine.

LEE'S PICKS:
The Confessions of Nat Turner The Confessions of Nat Turner: And Related Documents
by Nat Turner, edited by Kenneth Greenberg

This is a must read in honor of Black History month. Very short - the confessions are only about 12 pages, but valuable and enlightening. Turner, a startlingly original personality, is noted as the rebel who led a slave revolt in 1831.
Dreaming at the Gates of Fury
by Alexander Taylor

A small and powerful book of poetry by one of the most remarkable writers in the country. The poet was noted as the owner of Curbstone Press, publisher of a range of voices from other countries. A lovely book.
Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass An American Slave
by Frederick Douglass

A slender but brilliant book. Born a slave, until he escaped at age 20, Douglass was one of the greatest American orators and writers, a close friend of Lincoln, and deeply influential in ending slavery in this country.

FAITH'S PICKS:
My Last Supper: My Last Supper: 50 Great Chefs and Their Final Meals: Portraits, Interview, and Recipes
by Melanie Dunea

An absolutely fantastic book - interviews with 50 great chefs about what their ideal last meal would be, accompanied by unique photographs and with selected recipes (one from each meal) included. Wonderful detail and settings, and beautifully designed.
Harriet and Isabella Harriet and Isabella
by Patricia O'Brien

In 1875 Henry Ward Beecher was tried for adultery and caused a severe rift in his family, especially between his 2 sisters, Harriet, the noted writer and Isabella, the ardent suffragist . Harriet supported her brother while her sister thought he should admit his guilt. This historical novel explores one of our earliest celebrity scandals.
