R.J. Julia Booksellers Event Host

R.J. Julia Booksellers in Madison, CT is looking for an organized, responsible, creative and dynamic problem-solver to join our talented team of Event Hosts.

Event Hosts set up and host author readings, book signings and/or a variety of adult and children’s events.

Description: This position is responsible for event management.  There are approximately 200+ events executed each year ranging from 15-300+ participants.

Responsibilities:

·         Event set-up and breakdown:

o   Set up folding chairs and moving furniture as necessary

o   Set up AV equipment if necessary

·         Author Services:

o   Greet author upon their arrival

o   Provide the author with an overview of the event

o   Show them the area where the event will take place

o   Offer them coffee/tea/refreshments, show them where the restroom is

o   Introduce the author with a brief biography and thanking guests for coming

o   Manage the signing line, photographs, etc

·         Audience Services:

o   Greet customers as they arrive and collect tickets, if necessary

o   Make sure prepaid books are picked up

o   Direct customers to the event space

·         Administrative Duties:

o   Take photos during event

o   Have author sign copies for stock

o   Have author sign pre-orders for customers not in attendance

o   Track book sales

o   Track attendance

o   Provide the author with a gift book

o   Compose a thank you note to the author

Hours: Per Diem; days, nights and weekends, no more than 7 hours/week

Compensation: $9.15/hour
