Open Positions:

Ordering Specialist - Buying Department (Madison location)

We are seeking an organized, responsible, creative, and dynamic problem-solver to join our talented team of book buyers.

Position:

The R.J. Julia Booksellers Ordering Specialist will play an integral role in downloading and placing all book orders, special orders, and event orders with publishers and wholesalers. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Sourcing, placing, and managing all individual special orders for customers
  • Sending and managing all publisher and wholesaler orders
  • Working closely with RJ Julia Book Buyers to coordinate order placement
  • Working closely with RJ Julia Event Coordinators to order all event books
  • Maintaining vendor files

Required Qualifications:

Computer Skills:  Applicants must be competent in Microsoft Office.  Experience with Wordstock is highly valued, but not necessary.

Physicality:  The ability to lift and move boxes up to 40 lbs in weight.

Organization: This position includes a variety of tasks, so being able to multi-task and stay organized is important.

Book Lover: Since we're in the business of books, ideal applicants will share our enthusiasm for the business and maintain an awareness of industry happenings.

Internships

R.J. Julia Booksellers Store Marketing and Events Intern

Position: The R.J. Julia Booksellers intern will be involved in a wide variety of Marketing & Promotions tasks, which include assisting with:

  • author events
  • in-store displays
  • promotional mailings
  • flyer distribution
  • press releases
  • social media networking

Though the position will include a number of administrative tasks, we welcome our interns to shape their experience here according to their specific interests and talents. In addition to general assignments, we also encourage each intern to design a long-term project based on their unique skills and passions. Interns work flexible hours, Monday-Friday.

Qualifications:

  • Computer Skills: Applicants must be competent in Microsoft Word and Excel, Facebook and Twitter, and would ideally be familiar with Pinterest, Microsoft Publisher and Photoshop.
  • Writing Skills: Interns may be asked to write press releases, draft letters to area organizations, create flyers, etc.
  • Multi-tasking: This position includes a variety of tasks, so being able to multi-task is important.
  • Book Lover: Since we're in the business of books, ideal applicants will share our enthusiasm for the business.
  • High School and College students only, please.
