Open Positions:

Children and Young Adult Events Coordinator

  • Request author visits for in-store events and school visits by writing proposals and/or reaching out to publishers.

  • Coordinate all aspects of in-store author events, including confirming events, ordering books, and all event management.

  • Coordinate all aspects of author school visits, including finding host schools, creating order forms, bringing books to the schools, facilitating the event at the schools, and ringing sales.

  • Attend bi-weekly Kids’ Team management meetings.

  • Facilitate relationships with area schools through Educator Nights, Summer Reading fundraisers, and special programming.

  • Schedule, plan, and execute all aspects of Festival of Children’s Books, held annually at a local school.

  • Monitor event sales to meet weekly, monthly, and yearly sales goals.

Content Coordinator

This position creates, improves, and maintains all web content and projects related to RJ Julia websites. Duties include producing content to raise brand awareness, sales, and monitoring web traffic and metrics to identify best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Develop content strategy aligned with short-term and long-term marketing goals.

  • Collaborate with marketing and design teams to plan and develop site content, style and layout.

  • Create and publish engaging content.  Writes, edits, and proofreads new content.

  • Optimize content according to SEO.

  • Use content management systems to analyze website traffic and engagement metrics.

Requirements

  • Proven work experience as a content manager

  • Basic technical knowledge of HTML and web publishing

  • Knowledge of SEO and web traffic metrics (Google Analytics)

  • Familiarity with social media

  • Excellent writing skills

  • Attention to detail

  • Good organizational and time-management skills.

Internships

R.J. Julia Booksellers Store Marketing and Events Intern

Position: The R.J. Julia Booksellers intern will be involved in a wide variety of Marketing & Promotions tasks, which include assisting with:

  • author events

  • in-store displays

  • promotional mailings

  • flyer distribution

  • press releases

  • social media networking

Though the position will include a number of administrative tasks, we welcome our interns to shape their experience here according to their specific interests and talents. In addition to general assignments, we also encourage each intern to design a long-term project based on their unique skills and passions. Interns work flexible hours, Monday-Friday.

Qualifications:

  • Computer Skills: Applicants must be competent in Microsoft Word and Excel, Facebook and Twitter, and would ideally be familiar with Pinterest, Microsoft Publisher and Photoshop.

  • Writing Skills: Interns may be asked to write press releases, draft letters to area organizations, create flyers, etc.

  • Multi-tasking: This position includes a variety of tasks, so being able to multi-task is important.

  • Book Lover: Since we're in the business of books, ideal applicants will share our enthusiasm for the business.

  • High School and College students only, please.
