If I had to describe Michael Ondaatje's latest novel in one word, it would be "masterful." Here is the story of a sea voyage from Sri Lanka to England in the early 1950's, undertaken by an 11 year old boy being sent off to boarding school. What is so very fascinating is Ondaatje's ability to make you yearn to be a part of it all, sitting at the undesirable "cat's table" for meals, meeting a cast of intriguing characters, and having adventures that will forever change your life. - Kathryn

Lynnie is one of those people and her relationship with Homan, a deaf black man, is a wonderful testament to the power of love and the human spirit! This is one of those books that will suck you in from the start. It's the story of conjoined twins - separated at birth - the sons of a Indian nun and a British surgeon, born and raised in Ethiopia. Complex and fascinating, with healthy doses of medicine, political turmoil, complicated relationships, and the bonds and burdens of family. Really wonderful.
