Indies First Local Author Story Time

Indies First is a national campaign of activities and events in support of independent bookstores, first envisioned by author Sherman Alexie in 2013. It kicks off each November, on Small Business Saturday (November 28, 2015), when independent bookstores host authors as honorary booksellers throughout the day to help sell and sign books, share recommendations, give readings, and more.

Join us at 10:00am on Small Business Saturday, November 28, for a unique story time with local authors featuring:

Wiggle Your Tail written and illustrated by Jane Gross

A fun, uplifting book of colorful paintings and rhymes that inspire hope, joy and love in both children and grown-ups. Perfect for parents to read over and over to your happy little ones or for professionals to read to those in need. Written and illustrated by an experienced Social Worker and Art Therapist.

My Dog Wants to be a Cat  written by Linda Laudone

Abby wants to be a cat. Belle is not too pleased with that. "My Dog Wants to Be a Cat" is an endearing, beautifully illustrated story of two unlikely friends. Highlighting the playful relationship between cats and dogs, this book explores friendship in an easy to read, rhyming format.

Meatball by Carolina Monsalve

This is a story in honor of a best friend named Meatball, who is a beautiful and loyal boxer dog. He went through a very sad time because his former owners were irresponsible.

Rungle in the Jungle by Robert Logan Rogers

A giraffe, a tiger, and a jaguar decide to get their animal friends together for a friendly race. Everyone is excited. Everyone hopes to win! It’s shaping up to be the best day ever—until a sneaky snake ruins the fun with his boasting and scheming.

Suddenly, the other animals feel down. Surely the snake will win and make everyone feel pretty bad in the process. It’s up to the tiger and jaguar to outsmart the snake—and prove to their friends that positive thinking and creativity are more powerful than fear!

As every kid learns, everyone gets scared sometimes—even jungle animals! What’s important is facing your fears with strength and positivity. Just like life, the jungle might seem scary, but there’s also a lot of fun to be had.

The Baseball King by Max C. Weiss

The Baseball King, Max C. Weiss' first published book, was inspired by this eight-year-old author's entrepreneurial spirit, his love for baseball, and his interest in storytelling.  Encouraged by his younger siblings, Max weaves a narrative that explores the bond of friendship and the dedication and sacrifice required to become the best. Illustrated by Max's grandmother.
