Wesleyan RJ Julia Bookstore is looking for an individual to act as liaison between the bookstore, Wesleyan University, and local community, as well as be an integral part of strategic marketing plans. This position is 15-20 hours weekly.
Develop and maintain relationships with university students and faculty, as well as assess and respond to their needs
Strategize with Events Manager to create and execute non-author and faculty-authored events
Maximize opportunities for author events held at Wesleyan University and for Wesleyan visiting authors
Drive traffic to the store through community engagement and finding opportunities to create stories that resonate
Create marketing efforts for licensed products in response to seasonal needs in coordination with Store Manager and Marketing Manager
Provide weekly reports and marketing intelligence (including customer feedback and competitor information) to Marketing Manager
A minimum of 3-5 years experience in marketing
Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or communications
Detail-oriented team builder with excellent communication, organizational, and project management skills
Experience in executing effective, targeted outreach; creating and maintaining new partnerships; and juggling multiple different stakeholders
Familiarity with the book publishing industry is a plus
Knowledge of Drupal website softward, Wordstock point-of-sale system, and local media is a plus

RJ Julia Booksellers is looking for an organized, responsible, creative and dynamic problem-solver to join our talented team of Event Hosts.
Event Hosts set up and host author readings/book signing for a variety of adult and children’s events.
This position is responsible for individual event management. There are approximately 250+ events executed each year ranging from 15-1,000+ participants.
The hours for this position are mostly in the afternoon/evening and some weekends and may vary week to week based on the event schedule.
Execute events in a style that provides a unique and enjoyable customer experience – to inspire loyalty and return visits from our current customers and attract new visitors to the store;
Oversee all event set-up and breakdown (moving furniture, setting up folding chairs).
Welcome the author and guests as they arrive; introduce the author at the beginning of the event.
Manage the timeline of the event, oversee the book signing portion of the event.
Track book sales and attendance. Take photos for use on social media.
Previous event management experience preferred.
Public speaking experience.
Must bring a strong work ethic!
An energetic, outgoing candidate will thrive in this position.
Must be comfortable standing for extended periods of time, lifting, and moving furniture.
Multi-tasking: This position includes a variety of tasks, so being able to multi-task and to prioritize tasks is very important.
