Just The Right Book

Position: Operations Manager

Location: Madison, CT

RJ Julia Booksellers seeks a driven, hands-on, collaborative Operations Manager for overseeing our Just the Right Book (JTRB) personalized subscription program. Reporting directly to RJ Julia's Chief Operating Officer, the Operations Manager oversees all responsibilities of this renowned, personalized subscription program, performing/overseeing all order fulfillment while ensuring excellent customer service.

Responsibilities:

  • Manages the daily operations of the program, including performing fulfillment activities with the use of custom software(s) as well as manual processes related to order shipment preparations.
  • Works closely with the Buying and Receiving teams to ensure timely, efficient, and thoughtful book buying; inventory procurement from vendors; and the storage of books for the program subscribers.
  • Works with the Marketing team to assist in planning and execution of marketing efforts and promotions.
  • Ensures the JTRB office is staffed as needed for required operations, customer service, and various projects.
  • Maintains that department supplies are fully stocked and the work areas are safe, clean, and high functioning.
  • Acts as Customer Service point of contact for subscriber questions, issues, and general inquiries.
  • Acts as general point of contact for any issues relating to software, office equipment, etc.
  • Reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer for ensuring operational, sales, and marketing goals are met.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience with retail store programs; experience with subscription programs/services would be ideal. Bookselling experience a plus.
  • Excellent communicator and ability to work well in a team environment and across various roles and departments. 
  • Knowledge of Google Workplace, Microsoft Suite, WordPress, WooCommerce, and an overall comfort with online cloud-based software(s). 
  • Schedule: Part-time, 25-hours weekly. Some flexibility around weekdays versus weekends.
  • Physical: Ability to lift and move boxes weighing up to 25-35lbs.

Position: Bookkeeping Clerk

Location: Madison, CT

RJ Julia Booksellers has an opening for a clerk in our bookkeeping department. The schedule for this position is 3 hours on Mondays and 2 hours daily Tuesday through Friday. The clerk will complete daily bank deposits, sort and distribute mail, and sort and file paperwork.   • Distribute mail to appropriate staff
  • Bookkeeping invoices, credits, and statements by company and vendor

  • File once entered
  • Periodic file organization (year end and other times when needed)

Position: Email Marketing Specialist

Location: Madison, CT

RJ Julia Booksellers, Connecticut’s premier independent bookstore, is looking to hire a creative, tech-savvy Email Marketing Specialist to execute dynamic email marketing campaigns. We’re looking for an all-star, high-energy marketer who loves to write and strategize and will lead a top-notch email marketing program. As with all our communications, our goal is to closely mimic customers’ experiences in the bookstore, including tranquil browsing, insightful conversations with our well-read booksellers, or serendipitous discovery!

Responsibilities:

  • Compose unique, ingenious email content, using Mailchimp and IndieCommerce, while maintaining a rich and varied content calendar.
  • Work with designer and developer to ensure coding is up to specifications and/or upgrade templates as needed using graphics, personalization, and advanced features.
  • Schedule emails to send strategically and to the right audience demographics.
  • Proofread emails for clarity, grammar, spelling, hyperlinking, etc.
  • Analyze results, report on sales revenue, and pivot as needed.
  • Devise new and creative ways to grow the company’s email subscriber list.
  • Develop documentation and road maps for processes, A/B tests, and promotions.
  • Ensure emails follow policies and best practices.

Required Qualifications:

  • Proven experience creating high-impact, unique marketing campaigns as an email marketing specialist or digital marketing specialist.
  • Excellent project management skills specific to marketing.
  • Outstanding copywriting and copyediting abilities.
  • Ability to harness collaboration to produce well-crafted content.
  • An ability to work under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent analytical skills, including Google Analytics, SEO, Excel.
  • Familiarity with common email automation tools (MailChimp).
  • Solid design instincts.
  • Working knowledge of HTML and CSS, etc.

Position: Event Host - Per Diem

Location: Madison, CT; Middletown, CT; Virtual/Remote

RJ Julia Booksellers accepts applications for Event Hosts on a rolling basis.

RJ Julia Booksellers is looking for an organized, responsible, creative, and dynamic problem-solver to join our talented team of Event Hosts.

Event Hosts set up and host author readings/book signings for a variety of adult and children’s events.

This position is responsible for individual event management. There are approximately 250+ events executed each year ranging from 15 to 1,000+ participants.

The hours for this position are mostly in the afternoon/evening and some weekends and will vary week to week based on the event schedule.

Responsibilities:

  • Execute events in a style that provides a unique and enjoyable customer experience – to inspire loyalty and return visits from our current customers and attract new visitors to the store;

  • Oversee all event set-up and breakdown (moving furniture, setting up folding chairs).

  • Welcome the author and guests as they arrive; introduce the author at the beginning of the event.

  • Manage the timeline of the event, oversee the book signing portion of the event.

  • Track book sales and attendance. Take photos for use on social media.

Required Qualifications:

  • Previous event management experience preferred.

  • Public speaking experience.

  • Must bring a strong work ethic!

  • An energetic, outgoing candidate will thrive in this position.

  • Must be comfortable standing for extended periods of time, lifting, and moving furniture.

  • Multi-tasking: This position includes a variety of tasks, so being able to multi-task and to prioritize tasks is very important.

  • Book Lover: Since we're in the business of books, ideal applicants will share our enthusiasm for the business. Knowledge of publishing, industry and media trends; competitors' practices and community related news and issues is helpful.
